Digital Gardens

March 20, 2024

A digital garden / zettelkasten is a different way of thinking about your notes and personal knowledge. It is also a personal tool for thinking and writing. It has hypertextual features to make a web of thought possible.

In basic terms, it is a different format for written content on the web. It’s about moving away from blog posts ordered by dates and categories, into more of an interlinked web of notes. Blog posts are articles at a point in time, while here it is a collection of notes which are living documents. Digital gardens are also known as Zettelkasten or Second Brain.

Sometimes back when I stumbled upon Nikita Voloboev’s wiki, it became a regular hangout place immediately. But the real inspiration for me to start this space was Santhosh Thottingal. When he started his digital garden, I too wanted to try. And here we are.

There is a DigitalGardens community on Reddit which discusses tools to maintain & create these wikis. As well as how to use them to develop new transformative tools for thought.
