Silence and Unspoken Words
“You will never know, because I will never say a word, and that is when we’ll realize It was never meant to be because in that silence I would have screamed a million things but all you would have heard is the perceptions of your mind and all I would have seen is the disappointment in your eyes.”
- Anshuman Dash, Confessions of a Social Zombie
Silence can be more damaging than words. When we don’t speak our truth, express our feelings, or communicate our needs, we create misunderstandings, missed connections, and permanent regrets.
The Cost
- Missed connections: Opportunities for understanding pass by
- Unspoken regrets: Things we wish we’d said, love never expressed
- Internal suffering: Carrying unexpressed feelings, being misunderstood
Why We Stay Silent
- Fear of rejection and vulnerability
- Assuming others know how we feel
- Using silence as perceived power or control
Breaking the Silence
- Start small: Express one thing you’ve held back
- Be direct: Say what you mean, ask for what you need
- Accept the risk: Vulnerability is required, but silence guarantees nothing
